ALBUM REVIEW: MoXiiE - SAVAGE
MoXiiE first came onto my radar after seeing her featured on MuuMuse's blog sometime in late 2011 and I had been a fan ever since, Her 'Jungle Pop' EP was an absolute revolution for me and had been preparing my body for this album release after roughly 6 months of solid Jungle Pop beating.... I should have trained better.. Because I have a feeling i'm going to be SAVAGE-LY beaten now..
Review and Download if you click :) >
1. SAVAGE INTRO.
2. Never Hearda Ya - THAT BEAT…… This is everything I was expecting musically wise in follow up from her 'Jungle Pop' EP.. Those stomping beats, the synths, the drop after the bridge SLAYS me. I actually cannot fault this. This is definitely my favourite track.
3. Serial Killer - One of the Teases before the album was released.. I wasn't too keen on it to begin and I was kinda confused with the direction of the album but it's definitely a grower! Favoutite lyric from the track "You pin me down and now I want more " Sexy.
4. Wild (Interlude)
5. Rox Off - Another track with absolute stomping beats. But of a Dubstep break down after the bridge which always seems to excite me. Solid track about sex, alcohol and love (drugs). "Make love and war at the same time" Can't help but think that Tamar Braxton saw these lyrics and ripped off Mother MoXiiE
6. Parasite (Interlude)
7. Helluva Drug Feat. Kris Kasanova
This was the other track that was a promo for the album. This one I enjoyed much more and still do. The bass in this is so hot it makes me want to take off all my clothes. I think I might do the rest of this review stark naked. Love the lyrics, love the Supasonics production
GET SOME GET SOME GET SOME GET SOME GET SOME GET SOME. Okay :)
8. Nicotine Love - Probably the slowest track (Which is odd because it's actually the shortest track) on the album for me, can't really get into it, I feel like I want to skip it but I can't. I do like the slow Chorus but not too hot for the vocal effects, I really have to strain to hear what's being sung which distracts from listening pleasure for me. I don't hate it
9. Anyway - This is a bit of a sad love song, I absolutely love this Chorus, it's sweet and uplifting even over the heaven production and vocal effects. To me it comes across as a kind of pleading love song "What do we know about love?/ All we can do is try" "I wanna love you anyway/I'm gonna love you anyway". I do love the slight distortion in the beat it makes it all seem so hazy and dreamy.
10. Hell Outta Heaven - Probably one of my FAVOURITE tracks, this was another one that was used for promo, I love the beat, it's welcome clarity after the haziness of the last two tracks. Pretty straight forward track and that's actually where this girl is headed, FORWARD.
11. Fear (Interlude)
12. Hurt Me Now - This track is kind of heat breaking, it's the lyrics that really drive this track, also that pulsing synth, feels like it's being propelled further. The Vocals on this are really beautiful. The Bridge is awesome and it's that drum that comes in in the latter half of the song that really nails this track down as one of the best on the album.
13. We Were Kids - This track makes me smile. It's true, people forget sometimes.. that we we're kids once. once so carefree and lived lives of no responsibility. I really appreciate this track, it's fairly stripped down production wise in regards to the big bass and beats of the other tracks and it's a really great inclusion on the album
14. Celebration - Fun beat, the swooping bass, the guitar is welcoming, The lyrics are a bit sinister. Enjoyable, Maybe one of the weakest tracks.
15. Take it (In Case Of Emergency) - Tracks with sirens in them always make me take my headphones out to hear if it's sirens outside of in the song, I don't know if I'm the only one who does that.. This track is tough, "I'm not afraid o' your sabotage/I'm at ya front line" "If I gotta be a casualty/ at.least.I'll.know.the.truth" I really like this track, it instills strength through the track, the production helps this feeling.
16. Lay Down Your Crown - Not sure whose wig MoXiiE is after, but I am definitely behind her on this one. this is a final track on the album and it's a really good track finisher for this album. BRITNEY AND MADONNA LOCK UP YOUR CROWNS, MOXIIE IS COMING FOR YOU.
17. Serial Killer (Acoustic Version)
Beautiful acoustic, totally wasn't here for an acoustic but i'm really glad it was included, it's something to sooth you after being SAVAGELY beaten
In all I'm really impressed with this Independent Debut from a really really promising artist. I'm sure this is not going to be the last we hear of MoXiiE, I hope with this release she gets some commercial interest because she's an absolute GEM and a REALLY lovely girl too!
I'm gonna give this debut album a rating of 42.5/50
